I’m a communications professional with 15 years’ of experience in journalism and writing as
well as translating, simultaneous interpreting and training in Africa’s capital, Addis
Ababa. I am the author of Ethiopia through writers’ eyes, an anthology of writing on
Ethiopia and have written for The Guardian, CNN Traveler and others. I am currently
making a documentary about Ethiopia: The Oranges of Prester John (more info on
Uthiopia.com).
After studying agronomy & animal husbandry, I worked for several years on smallholdings in
France. I have extensive experience translating and interpreting in tourism, agriculture,
rail transport, development and politics. I have also translated cultural topics.
Running a horse riding stable in Ethiopia for 6 years was an experience which gave me a
good understanding of Ethiopia’s tourism sector. During this time I also carried out
consulting and training in Amharic for community based horse trekking ventures throughout
Ethiopia.
