Real estate development: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MINHDU) reassures private actors of government support.

On Friday 28 July 2017, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Jean Claude Mbwentchou, inaugurated in the Bastos neighbourhood in Yaounde, a nine storey building (comprising 28 apartments) with an elevator, belonging to a private real estate developer. During his speech, Minister Mbwentchou, who was surrounded by four other Members of the Government (Communication, Small and Medium Enterprises, Social Economy and Handicrafts, Labour and Social Security, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Transport) reiterated the Government constant willingness to support stakeholders wishing to invest in the real estate sector.
On his part, the real estate developer Magnus Mbiaga, who is also the Publishing Director of Daily newspaper Emergence , affirmed/stated that the construction of this building aims at addressing/curbing/bridging the deficit in decent accommodations/house in our Country. He also made an appeal to investors asking them to be interested in the housing sectors.
Restructuring and renovating under-structured neighbourhoods: Soon will come the turn of Kouogouo A, Kouogouo B and Djelen 5 in Bafoussam.

On Tuesday 18 July 2017, the workshop to launch the study to restructure/renovate under-structured neighbourhoods in the Bafoussam City council was hosted/ held in Bafoussam.The project will be executed by the Urban and Rural Lands Development and Equipment Authorityf (MAETUR) This approach falls within the framework of an agreement signed on 6 June 2015, for a MINHDU-MAETUR partnership, in the implementation of concerted development, Urban restructuring or renovation operations in Cameroon. This study, which is in line with the implementation of the Housing Development Programme (PDH) was included inscribed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development in his plan of action for 2016/2017.
This meeting enabled not only the official launch of the study, but also the sharing of the methodological approach for its realisation/implementation amongst all the stakeholders concerned. The work/meeting was chaired by Mr.Chaibou, Senior divisional officer for MIFI and Personal Representative of the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Jean Claude Mbwentchou. In his opening remarks, he thanked the MAETUR, the State's Institutional Developer, for having started the mobilisation of experts (which began,) without asking/urging him to win the bet/to address the challenge of meeting the deadline provided for this service. He also called on all stakeholders to work within the framework of a participative approach "AAAAAA that MAETUR should organise and animate/coordinate". Two main/major communications/presentations were on the agenda. The first presented by Jean Marie Tchoffo, Assistant/sub- Director for Development and Embellishment Operations at the MINHDU, talked about/was focused on/dealt with the administrative steps to validate the restructuring plan. As for the second, which was on the presentation of planning principles according to UN-Habitat , it was presented by Sipliant Takougang, National Coordinator of the Urban Governance Programme, UN- Habitat focal point.
A similar workshop was launched in Garoua on Thursday 1 June 2017 by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development for the renovation of under-structured neighbourhoods.
