Employment record
Research employee and Lecturer at City University
August 2022—
As a member of the City University Research Institute (CURI), my main responsibility was to
conduct studies within my area of expertise. I also played a crucial role in assisting with the
implementation of the university's research strategies. With my specialization in agriculture and
related disciplines such as hydrometeorology, environment, and climate change, I actively
conducted research on the interrelationships between crops, water, soil, and climate/atmosphere.
One area of particular interest for me was urban horticulture production and enhancing food
production in cities, specifically Mogadishu, which is overpopulated by IDPs. I measured the food
coping strategies adopted by these IDPs and contributed to studies exploring the impact of climate
change on hydrometeorology, including long-term rainfall trends and the effects of climate change
on riverine agricultural production. Additionally, I was engaged in designing experimental studies
to further our understanding in these areas. As a junior researcher, I underwent training provided
by senior researchers within the university's research institutes, which enhanced my knowledge
and skills in the field.
Furthermore, as a lecturer I teacher:

Research Intern at Heritage Institute for Policy Studies Sept 2022-Febuary 2022
As junior researcher at City University, I was fortunate to be awarded a one-year research
internship by its sisterly organization, Heritage Institute for Policy Studies, one of Somalia's
prominent think-tanks. During this internship, I had the opportunity to engage in various courses
related to the field of research, covering different research approaches, data collection methods
and tools, report writing, and entry-level project management. Alongside the coursework, I
undertook a research project as a requirement to successfully complete the internship program.
Additionally, I had the privilege of occasionally assisting the institute in tasks such as data
collection, transcription of interviews, and helping with the preparation of forum venues. Through
this valuable experience, I acquired and honed skills that significantly deepened my understanding
of research and project management, contributing to my professional growth.
Monitoring and Evaluation Assistance
Lifeline Organization December
August 2017-June 2018
After completing the Monitoring and Evaluation training offered by Lifeline organization in
December 2021, I was employed as a Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant. During my tenure, I
actively contributed to the successful implementation of two projects focused on women and youth
empowerment in Afgoye and Marka. My responsibilities were collecting data from the project
areas before, during, and after implementation phases, while also actively engaging stakeholders.
Through my involvement in these projects, I gained invaluable experiences that significantly
enhanced my project management skills.
My specific responsibilities were:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Assisting data collection activities, by conducting surveys, focus group discussions with
project stakeholder.
Organizing the data by entering and cleaning the collected, verifying the data quality and
integrity using
Ensuring the collected data accurate and effective in answering or achieving the specific
questions or objectives of the project.
Assisting the monitoring of the project activities and progresses by tracking project
indicators, outputs and outcomes based on project framework
Contribution the preparation and update of the monitoring and evaluation report.
Closely collaborating and working with different project teams to ensure the project
objectives are achieved.
Ensure that monitoring and evaluation activities adhere to established standards and
guidelines
Research internship Program
Akdeniz University
September 2020-May-July 2021
When I was studying for my Master's degree at Akdeniz University, I participated in their
internship program. As part of the program, I collected data from the meteorological station located
at the University's agriculture research center. This project allowed me to learn and work at the
same time. During the project, my fellow interns and I received training on how to analyze
meteorological data. This involved identifying any significant outliers in the observed rainfall,
temperature, and relative humidity data, as well as analyzing trends in the time series data. After
completing the training, I was assigned specific responsibilities:
•
•
•
•
•
Entering the recorded rainfall data to excel and also importing the data recorded by
the thermometers to the google-sheets.
Cleaning the entered data and filling the insignificant temporal and spatial missing
data using imputation and interpolation methods.
Detecting and treating the outliers using Chi-squires
Validating the data using modern and classic developed models
Creating graphs for data visualization
