Stephen Sammut Nurminen

I'm a finance professional with over 15 years of hands-on experience across accounting, reporting, and financial operations — ranging from large international firms to fast-moving startups. My journey began in traditional accounting roles, but over time, I’ve evolved into someone who not only understands the numbers, but also how to use them to guide business decisions, build better systems, and support growth.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked across various industries, including fintech, e-commerce, and lifestyle brands, and I’ve had the chance to manage everything from monthly reporting and budget planning to audit preparation and process automation. I’m highly proficient in tools like Xero, Excel (including advanced formulas and automation), Netsuite, and G-Accon, and I’ve also supported finance system implementations and cross-border compliance efforts.

Most recently, I’ve been working both in-house and as a freelance accountant, where I’ve helped small and mid-sized businesses improve their financial visibility and strengthen their internal controls. I’m known for being detail-oriented, dependable, and solution-focused — but also approachable and collaborative. I genuinely enjoy working with people across different teams and time zones to solve problems and move things forward.

One of my key strengths is adaptability. I’ve worked in remote setups, scale-up environments, and through periods of organisational change, where being proactive and calm under pressure has been essential. I don’t shy away from learning new systems or frameworks (including unfamiliar GAAPs), and I enjoy the challenge of stepping into evolving roles where I can make an impact quickly.

Outside of work, I’m deeply passionate about movement and giving back. I’ve completed several ultra-running challenges to raise money for the homeless, including a 748 km solo run across Thailand. These projects reflect how I approach life and work: with focus, resilience, and a drive to push boundaries — not just for myself, but to create something meaningful for others.

I’m now looking for a role where I can bring my experience, work ethic, and energy to a team that values purpose, collaboration, and forward momentum.
