Sophie Lau

I'm a polyglot/writer and have been working in a freelance capacity since 2015.

I know 8 languages - English, Cantonese, Hakka, French, Spanish, Russian, German, and Latin. I am currently working on my 9th language, Korean!

The bulk of my experience involves translating into English, my native language, but my most recent translation project was EN to FR and EN to DE for a tourism website.

I'm a seasoned freelance journalist and have worked in the fashion industry, as well as in writing cultural and political opinion pieces - you can find some of my recent work on the Independent and gal-dem. I also enjoy creative writing and published my own poetry collection last year!

I have 3 years of experience working as a private tutor both in my acquired languages and in English, including proofreading university-level academic papers.

I graduated with First Class Honours in a Master of Arts from the University of St Andrews in French, Spanish, and Russian (Triple Honours). I achieved a Distinction in Spoken French and Spanish, and I made the Deans' List for Academic Excellence.
