I’m a public relations specialist with a former life as a steely-eyed killer.
In my former life as a U.S. Army intelligence officer, I learned to work under pressure, in harsh conditions, analyzing great quantities of complex detail and communicate it all clearly to a variety of audiences. I also led troops, developed training plans, and earned the trust and respect of my subordinates, peers, and superiors.
When it came time for a change, I worked as a human intelligence targeting officer by day, and attended graduate school by night. During my work hours, I expanded my analytic toolkit and leveraged it to locate the best potential sources for our military forces deployed to Afghanistan. This knowledge of human behavior and targeting served me well at school, where I learned to leverage this knowledge as a professional communicator.
Following school, I spend the next five years as a public affairs specialist for an Army campaign designed to strengthen mental toughness, build mental agility, and increase human performance. I worked behind a computer, behind a smartphone, and in the field to communicate the importance of resilience and mental skills training for U.S. Army soldiers and their families, as well as external stakeholders. I conducted live Twitter chats, streamed live on (the now-defunct) Periscope, wrote blogs and articles, curated social media, and served to connect the myriad Army installations across the globe with the headquarters back in Washington, D.C.
My husband’s work has taken our family to Germany, so I’m looking for new opportunities to flex my creative muscle, and help clients achieve their business or mission objectives through creative, thought- and action-provoking communications strategies and techniques.
