Peter Harca

Warm greetings, I'm Peter Harca, an experienced translator based in Croatia. But first, let me tell you a bit about myself. I was born and grew up in Melbourne, Australia. Having been born of Croatian parents, I have been exposed to the Croatian language from infancy. We talked mainly Croatian in a domestic everyday setting. Of course, my educational experience exposed me to the English language, which I enjoyed learning at primary and secondary school. As a teenager I took a greater interest in the South Slavic languages, and began to develop my linguistic knowledge in more detail. I taught myself the Cyrillic alphabet. I gained this experience with the aid of bilingual dictionaries. And some help from native speakers, asking them for clarification of the spelling of certain words. It was always my desire to visit Croatia one day, this desire was realized in late 2006, when I travelled to Croatia and stayed at my cousins house, in the very house where my father lived. During my stay in Croatia, I met my wife to be. After my vacation elapsed, I returned to Australia, where I corresponded with my wife. I returned to Croatia early 2007 and we got married. I have been living in Croatia ever since. I have been speaking only Croatian with my family members on a day to day basis. I started out as a freelance translator back in 2023 and have been at it ever since. My employment has accompanied me with the use of CAT tools like Trados, Matecat, MemoQ, Smartling. I have taught myself MS Word 2021. I have developed an impressive portfolio of work samples, which can be revealed upon demand, I just need to be wary of any NDA bindings. My language pairs are:

English >< Croatian, Bosnian (Lat & Cyrillic), Serbian (Lat & Cyrillic). I have been translating in the following domains: General, Licences, Diplomas, Legal Documents, Construction Machinery, Automotive, Mechanics.

As to my attributes, I have a keen eye for detail and as such I have been given tasks to edit translations. I am very conscientious about meeting deadlines and will stay up all night in order to meet them. I enjoy doing research using books (dictionaries) and online media in order to find the right words or phrases in my target translating. I am in this freelance business for an indefinite time, therefore I will make a commitment.
