PA S C A L E B U N I N K PROFILE Bi-lingual Native Speaker; fluent in English and Dutch Born in New York, New York, U.S.A. to a Dutch father and U.S. mother on July 15, 1961. Emigrated to Europe in 1973 and lived in Gran Canaria and France before moving to The Netherlands where I completed my high school and university education. EXPER IENCE CO - OW NER / M A N AG E R I N C . FA SHI O N , A M STE RDAM , T H E N E T H E RL AN D S — 2000 -2019 For nearly 20 years I ran a successful women’s and children’s fashion boutique in Amsterdam, together with my mother and business partner. Our boutique was specialised in trend-setting, high quality, eco-consciously produced European fashion labels with an eye for detail and design. Our boutique was one of the first shops in Amsterdam to offer home accessories creating a welcoming atmosphere for customers looking for a more personal shopping experience. In my position as manager I was responsible for buying and selling the collections as well as creating a stylish webshop with loyal, worldwide customers. In July 2019, we made the decision to close our shop and have been since been pursuing personal projects. F R E EL A NC E TRAN SL ATOR - 1 9 8 6 - 2000 I started translating and subtitling while I was still studying English Language and Literature at The University of Amsterdam. I have translated from English to Dutch and vice versa. The majority of my work was translating from Dutch to English as there were few native speakers working in English at the time. I subtitled a variety of documentaries and drama productions for Condor Productions in Amsterdam and worked with their in-house subtitling program. For Joop van den Ende Productions (currently known as Endemol) I translated scripts for several Dutch television series that employed English speaking directors working with Dutch actors. This work always involved working with very tight deadlines and was done remotely. S C R I PT R EA D E R / D IR ECTO R’ S A SSI STAN T - 1987 - 1992 For five years, I worked on several Dutch film and television productions as a director’s assistant, script and continuity person. Several productions were English spoken and had international casts. My language skills were appreciated and useful whilst working with Alejandro Agresti, a Spanish speaking director, who had based himself in The 123 High Street, Anytown, County, Postcode - www.example.com Netherlands after leaving Argentina. I understand Spanish quite well, having grown up listening to my grandparents speaking Spanish to my mother. I have a working knowledge of Spanish, but my Spanish is not fluent or grammatically correct. After the birth of my first child, I was no longer able to combine the very long hours of working on a filmset with my personal life. It was a period that I enjoyed tremendously and learnt a great deal from and at times, regret I could not have continued doing. assistant director/script/continuity Zwerfsters (director Marja Kok, Videodrama) 1989 script/continuity Alissa in Concert (director Erik van Zuylen, Allarts) 1990 script/continuity Luba (director Alejandro Agresti, Allarts) 1990 script/continuity Everyone wants to help Ernest (director Alejandro Agresti, Allarts/ VPRO) 1991 script/continuity Nissan commercial (director Alejandro Agresti, Allarts) 1991 script/continuity Centipede (director René Daalder, Allarts/VPRO) 1991 script/continuity Modern Times (director Alejandro Agresti, Allarts) 1992 EDUCATI ON U NI V E R S ITY O F A M ST E R DA M — E N GL I SH L AN GUAGE AN D L I TE RATU RE 1 9 8 2 -1 9 8 6 B A R LA E U S GYM N ASIU M — GRAD UATE D 1979 SK ILLS As a child born to a Dutch father, a jazz pianist and a Filipino-Spanish mother, a naturalised U.S. citizen, who worked in government and Public Broadcasting in N.Y., I was raised with a great emphasis on art, culture and education. My parents left The United States during the dark days of Nixon’s Watergate scandal and decided to raise their family in Europe. We lived nearly a year in The Canary Islands and a year and a half in France, where I learned French and attended the local Lycée. Eventually, my parents decided to settle in The Netherlands, my father’s birthplace, where I attended and completed the Barlaeus Gymnasium majoring in Alpha studies (Languages and History). I speak and write French well, but would not offer my skills as a translator or transcriber. I am bi-lingual and completely fluent in both English and Dutch and enjoy the challenge of finding the right word or phrase to make a translation work.
