HOW TO BUILD A DATA ANALYSIS PORTFOLIO
As a data analyst, it is essential to have a solid portfolio to highlight
your qualifications to prospective employers.
A strong portfolio can help you stand out from the competition and show
that you can handle challenging data problems.
The following will assist you in creating a strong portfolio as a data
analyst:
1. Choose Projects That Are Related
By now, I believe you have a full understanding of what you want and the
kind of organization you seek to apply to; hence, choose projects that
you know, WOULD IMPRESS the recruiters or employers.
Pick projects that showcase your knowledge and show off a variety of
your skills.
The kind of tasks you would like to perform in your capacity as a
data analyst should be represented in these projects.
2. Work on Individual Projects
Start with personal projects if you don't have any professional
experience. You can even make your own data projects or study publicly
available datasets. (Rewatch the video on how to get data from different
data sites).
For Making Your Own Projects, locate a friend that has a business,
understudy the business, convince them to look at their numbers and

help analyze/make meaning out of their numbers), proceed to give them
solutions to their business problems (Actionable steps).
PS: Ensure you are showcasing exactly what would attract an

the projects as part of your portfolio.

Add projects that demonstrate your proficiency with preprocessing and
data cleaning.

Make your words/data precise and CLEAR.
8. Create Interactive Dashboards
Provide instances of your work using tools such as Tableau, Power BI,
and interactive online dashboards in your portfolio. It would make your
analysis to be more engaging and beautiful to explore.
You can create a Personal Website to host your projects, showcase your
work and provide additional context.

Alternatively, you can use PowerPoint to prepare your dashboard,
reports and analysis, create a folder on google drive, titled “Portfolio”
and keep uploading your work to the folder.
Note: Any work, whether arranged on PowerPoint or done in Power BI,
Excel etc.
Afterwards, copy the link and share as evidence of your work.
Note also that dashboard creation is a necessity; have dashboards as
part of your portfolio.

9. Pay strict attention to your work.
Ensure that your portfolio is error-free, well arranged, and visually
appealing. Be mindful of the presentation as a whole, grammar, and
format.

Ask classmates, mentors, or even online communities for their opinions.
You can enhance your projects and presentations with the aid of
constructive feedback.

Your expertise should be dynamically shown in your portfolio. Update
your portfolio to represent your development as you finish new tasks and
pick up new skills.

Quantify the impact of your work whenever you can. Mention if the
analysis resulted in a specific percentage gain in sales or decrease in
expenses.
Note: You make your accomplishments seem more real by using numbers.

stakeholders to behold and ascertain whether you can fit into their
organization.
Show with your data, relevant things, communicate with your data and
create a story with your dashboard.
