About

With over 30 years of experience teaching both government and English, I am deeply passionate about bringing these subjects to life in the classroom. My journey as an educator has been fueled by the belief that understanding government empowers students to participate actively in society, and that a strong grasp of language gives them the tools to express themselves clearly, persuasively, and empathetically. These subjects are powerful individually, but combined, they equip students to become not only knowledgeable citizens but also articulate and engaged members of their communities.

In my classroom, I strive to cultivate an environment where curiosity, respect, and a love of learning thrive. I see my role as not only a teacher but also as a mentor who encourages students to think deeply and critically. For government classes, this means examining civic responsibilities and the workings of government systems in a way that connects with their lives, showing students how these concepts impact them daily. In English, I emphasize the beauty and importance of language, helping students develop strong writing and communication skills, which are crucial for self-expression and advocacy.

My goal is to create a space where students feel comfortable exploring complex, sometimes challenging, issues. I encourage open discussions, where students can voice their opinions, learn to listen to others, and, importantly, develop their ability to question and analyze the world around them. Through hands-on projects, debates, and writing exercises, I aim to equip them with the skills they need to think independently and to recognize the broader impacts of their roles within their communities.

Ultimately, my teaching goes beyond academic success; I am committed to helping students become informed and thoughtful citizens. I believe that every student has the potential to make a positive impact, and it is my privilege to help guide them along that path. By instilling a respect for language and a deep understanding of civic structures, I hope to leave my students with the tools and the motivation to engage meaningfully with the world around them. Teaching government and English has been immensely fulfilling, and I am honored to continue supporting young minds as they grow into active, responsible, and reflective members of society.
