At my last role, being a business analyst meant:
- Understanding Problems
- Clients (NGOs, startups, public sector) had challenges — like launching a product, improving efficiency, or structuring their operations.
- Your first job was to analyze those problems and figure out what was really needed.
- Researching & Gathering Information
- You conducted market and policy research — using tools like SWOT, PESTLE, and Porter’s Five Forces.
- This helped you understand competitors, risks, and opportunities.
- Turning Findings into Plans
- You created strategies, SOPs, frameworks, and reports so that executives could make decisions more confidently.
- Example: market entry strategy for the remittance app (Motherland).
- Supporting Execution
- You worked with teams (designers, developers, communication leads) to make sure the strategy was actually implemented.
- Example: helping SleekPro Makeup shape their digital roadmap.
- Measuring Success
- You tracked KPIs and impact, so clients knew whether the strategies were working.
- Example: monitoring and evaluation protocols for NGO projects with 10,000+ beneficiaries.
