Classroom Library Book Borrowing Procedure
Scope: This SOP applies to all students in [Insert Grade/Class Name] who wish to borrow books from the classroom library during the school year.

Responsibilities
Teacher/Librarian: Oversees the lending process, maintains the library inventory, and ensures procedures are followed.
Student Librarian (if applicable): Assists in recordkeeping and helps other students follow the borrowing process.
Students: Follow all procedures for borrowing and returning books responsibly.
School Administration: May provide resources or funding, Oversees adherence to
school-wide literacy initial.
Procedure
Step 1: Choosing a Book
Students may select a book during designated library time or with the teacher’s permission during free periods.
Students are encouraged to choose age-appropriate and interest-based reading materials.
Step 2: Recording the Book Borrowed
Before taking the book, students must log their borrowing in the Class Library Logbook or Digital Library Tracker.
Details to Record:
Student’s full name
Date of borrowing
Book title and author
Book code or number (if applicable)
Expected return date (usually one week from borrowing)
Step 3: Borrowing Limit
Each student may borrow only one book at a time.
The borrowing period is 1 week, with an option to renew once if no one else has requested the book.
Step 4: Returning the Book
Return books to the Designated Return Box or Shelf.
Update the Library Logbook to mark the return date.
If the book is damaged or lost, students must report it immediately to the teacher and may be required to replace or repair the book.
Step 5: Renewal Process
If more time is needed, students must request a renewal before the due date.
Renewals are granted for 1 additional week.
General Rules
Books must be handled with care.
Writing or drawing in books is strictly prohibited.
Returned books should be in good condition.
Students who consistently fail to follow procedures may lose borrowing privileges.
Recordkeeping
All borrowing and returning records should be kept for the entire term.
A monthly check of the log should be performed to track overdue or missing books.
Review & Updates
This SOP will be reviewed at the start of each term and updated as necessary.
