I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) with over 10 years of progressive experience in financial management, donor compliance, and strategic planning across international NGOs and donor-funded organizations. I specialize in ensuring sound financial stewardship, strengthening internal controls, and aligning financial operations with organizational goals to drive efficiency and accountability.
In my current role as Deputy Finance Manager – Projects and Regions at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), I provide oversight of multi-million-dollar, multi-donor programs. My key responsibilities mirror those of a Financial Controller, including:
· Budgeting & Forecasting – Leading the preparation of annual budgets, donor proposal budgets, and financial forecasts, ensuring alignment with program objectives and strategic priorities.
· Financial Reporting & Compliance – Preparing and reviewing management and donor reports, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with IFRS and donor requirements (USAID, OFDA, FCDO, EU, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation).
· Internal Controls & Risk Management – Designing and strengthening control systems, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring adherence to organizational and donor financial policies.
· Cash Flow & Treasury Management – Monitoring grants receivable schedules, billing, collections, and disbursements to optimize cash flow and maintain liquidity.
· Audit & Governance – Coordinating internal and external audits, ensuring smooth reviews and timely implementation of recommendations.
· Financial Systems & Process Optimization – Spearheading ERP system enhancements (AGRESSO, SUN, Serenic), introducing digital archiving, approval workflows, and payroll automation to improve efficiency and audit readiness.
· Team Leadership & Capacity Building – Supervising and mentoring accountants, building financial management capacity across regions, and supporting partners with training on compliance and reporting.
· Stakeholder Engagement – Collaborating with donors, implementing partners, auditors, and program leaders to ensure financial strategies support program delivery and long-term sustainability.
Key achievements include successfully implementing a new payroll system for 400+ staff, resolving long-standing receivables and payables, leading full donor compliance that secured continued funding, and introducing digital financial records management to improve transparency and efficiency.
I hold a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Nairobi and I am a proud member of ICPAK. I have also completed professional training in IFRS, USAID rules and regulations, and donor compliance.
Motivated by a commitment to operational excellence and impact, I bring to a Financial Controller role a proven ability to manage complex donor portfolios, safeguard resources, and deliver financial leadership that strengthens both accountability and organizational growth.
