During my time in Cairo I developed a great enthusiasm for studying the link between Middle Eastern Politics,
Colonialism and Biopolitics. Intense Arabic lessons (ECA) at the Arabic Academy in Zamalek equipped me
with religiously and culturally crucial communication skills that gave me the ability to enhanced my
experience of resistance to authoritarianism, the Arabic Uprisings, and the military coup, its counterreaction.

background knowledge of the region.

Excellent communication skills were essential during my time at the University and at work. My confidence in
conveying information effectively was increased through communicating with a variety of people including colleagues,
students and parents on a regular basis. Written communication skills have been enhanced through writing reports
and translating. Skilled translation in multiple languages under consideration of cultural and political aspects such as
demonstrated during my internship with New York Habitat.
Teamwork:
The ability to work within a team has been developed throughout University during the preparation of presentations
or briefings, during meetings at work and the involvement in societies in order to ensure that activities were well
organised and ran successfully.
Research:
Research skills have been developed throughout the degree programme. Researching topics from multiple angles to
make sure that questions were approached from multiple perspectives and that key information was relayed to the
reader.
Organisation:
Excellent organisation is vital working from home or in international companies, it was especially enhanced when
quick and effective responses were required.
IT:
Excellent IT skills have been gained throughout studies and further developed during the translation internship. These
include familiarity with different reference styles, inter alia Harvard, APA, Chicago, MLA and an introduction to CAT
tools (i.a. OmegaT, Wordfast Anywhere, MateCat). Besides from confident usage of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and
Outlook, I used speech analysis Softwares such as Praat, Audacity and ELAN on a regular basis, in particular when
creating professional and phonetic transcriptions for research projects.
