For a shipping, logistics and transportation company, supported a web based travel and expense reporting system (Concur).
Gathered and documented business requirements, wrote project plans and interfaced with product support to resolve issues.
Worked on a variety of projects including on-boarding foreign employees into the system, single sign on for mobile devices, and converted reports from Crystal Reports to Cognos Business Intelligence.
Business Analyst (contractor), Allstate Benefits, April 2012 – March 2013
Performed detailed analysis of business needs in the areas of compliance, claims, premium administration, finance and product actuarial. This included running JAD sessions, daily SCRUM meetings and developing requirements documents and programming specifications which contained business needs, testing requirements and conditions for closure.
Responsible for creating test and traceability matrices and conducting quality assurance testing after code and unit testing.
Maintained artifacts in the project folders including risk assessment, security documents and meeting minutes. Multi-tasked between projects in various stages (requirements, program specifications, test planning and approval, customer sign-off).
Sr Programmer Analyst, Winn-Dixie, July 2002 – March 2012
Maintained and enhanced applications for a major retailer in the following systems: Daily Sales, Check Approval and Recovery, Travel and Expense, Gross Profits, Identical Store Sales, Store Information Source, and Workforce Management.
Re-engineered a check approval and recovery system from VSE, COBOL and VSAM to COBOL II, DB2 and a web interface using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Converted VSAM files to DB2 tables. Coordinated with off-shore team and created technical documentation including program specifications, JCL standards and test plans. After conversion participated in a number of projects to enhance the system which resulted in a $2.6 million annual reduction in returned checks.
As part of a project team designed, coded, and tested a centralized database for all store information including operating hours, managers, and store event calendar tied into the public website. Application used DB2 database and CICS programs with a distributed web (HTML, CSS and JavaScript) interface.

Designed and implemented interfaces between a web based travel and expense reporting system (Concur) and corporate financial systems, including PeopleSoft general ledger, payroll and human resources. Created detailed functional requirements, set up test environments, created test conditions, scripts and expected results, executed test plans, and maintained awareness of project status. Interface was written in COBOL II, DB2, and SQL Server. The system automated a manually intensive process saving thousands of dollars.
Lead Programmer Analyst, World Omni Financial Corp., June 2000 – July 2002
For a $6.6 billion diversified automotive corporation designed an automobile lease remarketing system used to identify and retain lease customers whose leases were due to expire in 18 months or less. System was written in COBOL II, CICS, and VSAM with a GUI front end for customer service reps. This system was developed as a turnkey system to market to other leasing agencies and financial institutions.
Converted programs of an automotive dealer inventory system to use DB2 databases. System tracked vehicles that came back from leasing customers to their final disposition - retail sale, auction, or re-lease. System was written in COBOL II, CICS, and DB2.
Independent Contractor, February 1992 – May 2000
As the technical lead for a large financial institution set up new CICS application regions for new customers of a mutual fund accounting system. System was the nation’s second largest full-service provider of mutual fund accounting services with $346 billion in assets and 33 million shareholder accounts. Project was finished on time and within budget. Client: PNC Bank
As project leader supervised the Y2K compliance testing of a tax and benefit system for a government agency. Duties included planning and prioritizing work activities, progress conferences, documentation, and status reporting. Coordinated testing efforts with operations, application support, and met with end users to review test results. System consisted of 281 jobs and over 500 programs written in COBOL II, CICS, and VSAM. Client: Delaware Dept of Labor
As the senior technical lead for a financial institution converted systems from VSE to MVS and
COBOL 74 to COBOL II. Provided training in TSO and SDSF and wrote training documents. As part of a standards committee helped draft standards for production and test JCL and file naming conventions. Responsible for ensuring that over 1200 files were consistently renamed during the conversion according to the new standards. Client First USA Bank
Responsible for coding and testing Year 2000 changes to a receivables system for an auto insurance company. System was composed of 134 COBOL batch and on-line programs. Development was done using Microfocus COBOL on a PC workstation. Client: AIG
Participated in a year 2000 project for a large insurance company to convert a system that provided premium, loss, and reinsurance systems with information to edit reinsurance account codes and company codes. System utilizes both batch and online processing and was written in COBOL II, IMS/DB, and CICS and consisted of 150 programs, 50 copybooks, 11 Easytrieve programs, 150,000 lines of code with over 7,000 date references. Client: CIGNA
Supported small development projects in the payroll and general accounting systems for a large transportation company. Performed maintenance and enhancements for projects of 300 hours duration or less. Modified 401k system for union employees to report figures to Merrill Lynch for administrative purposes. Managed a project for a major insurance firm to expand six databases for a life and long-term disability system. System was written in COBOL II and EasyTrieve Plus using CICS and IMS DB and contained over 150 programs. I was responsible for estimating tasks, coordinating testing, and keeping users and upper management updated on its progress. Client: CIGNA
For a financial services company wrote and tested interface programs for an investment tracking package. Made enhancements to an institutional 401k investment system including earnings statements, check writer, check register and CICS file update programs. System was written in COBOL II, VSAM, and CICS.
