BACKGROUND
I am a semi-retiree and so I am keen to apply my skills and knowledge in a
part-time, remote or hybrid job. As an author, I have had 3 books published and
I was also a former journalist and freelance sub-editor and I have had numerous
feature stories published in international newspapers, magazines and syndicated
via features services. My area of interest has mainly been in social and economic
development and current affairs (having spent time at the Institute of
Development Studies at Sussex University). In my former employment at a
language localization agency, I also have had translation and proof-reading
experience. My writing and communication skills can also be considered first rate.
In addition, having pursued academic research and worked as an Investigations
Officer in the UK civil service, I consider my research skills to be sufficiently indepth.
As a former TV producer and director, I have over 18 years of senior
management experience in business development, strategy formulation and
execution, marketing, production management, audio dubbing and language
localisation. The industry sectors that I have worked in include digital media,
direct response marketing, brand creation and brand strategy, content
localization, broadcast television, event marketing, journalism, as well as my
first job in a UK government statutory body.
Having left the UK in 1995, I have lived and worked in Hong Kong, Singapore,
Shanghai and Beijing and travelled extensively in the Asia Pacific region on
company business and as a former journalist. Therefore, I am both aware of,
and comfortable with, the cultural sensitivities of doing business in the region.
Between-, I launched the brand identity services of Red Bee Media in
China, a company which was formerly part of BBC Resources. One of our first
clients included Beijing Olympics Organising Committee and the official Olympic
Games state broadcaster, CCTV.
I have a solid background in video production (long and short-form) as well as
experience in written content as a former journalist and author. As for content
strategy, I was one of the early ‘pioneers’ in sponsor-driven short form creation.
Examples here include the creation of lifestyle features for mobile screens on
Kowloon Motor Bus in 2000, award-winning animated webisodes in partnership
with music and book publishers in 2001 and re-versioning of MTV extreme
sports and youth content for portals in China in 2009. Prior to this, in 1995, I
spear-headed a multi-media content strategy for Pearson PLC combining event
marketing and TV production to promote the sales of Longman’s ‘Gogo Loves
English’ book series in China.

CAREER RESUME
As listed in my Career Biography below, I have a wealth of People/Projects
experience in managing teams in Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai.
In all my former positions, I have motivated teams through leading by example
and not by top-down directives. I am a fundamental believer in empowering
team members and colleagues as ‘stake-holders’ in the project.
