I am a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. I am a Certified Public Accountant working for almost 13 years now handling various roles in payables, receivables, billing, dispute settlement, bank reconciliation, general accounting, financial statement preparation and variance analysis.

Processing of payables includes checking if the invoice is issued to the company. Making sure that the invoice details contains all the necessary details of the company as these will support tax claims. This also includes that approval has been secured for these invoices. Supporting documents should also be attached to the invoice such as delivery receipt for goods or certificate of completion for services and purchase orders. In case of 3-way matching, purchase order, delivery receipt and invoices should contain same details of goods. During payment run, making sure that all invoices that are due before the next payment run are included. Payables processing also involves the preparation of schedule for accrued expenses during monthend.

I have been also involved in various Users’ Acceptance Testing (process done during migration to another system, system improvement or process improvement). This is to check or test if the improvement is working well, if there are fix that needs to be done or if the change has impacted the other modules.

Bank reconciliation is to make sure that the book balance and book balance are the same. This is done by examining the bank statement. Checking if all entries in the bank statement are booked. In case there are entries that are in the bank but not yet in the book, preparation of entries is then required or in case of a customer payment, receipting is necessary.
