Zeynep Elife Sunar

I am an extremely detail-oriented Turkish-English translator. I received my BA degree in Translation and Interpreting Studies at Çankaya University in 2017. After completing my undergraduate program with a full scholarship, I graduated as a High Honor Student and ranked 1st among other graduating students of the department. 

Owing to the fact that I have spent the early years of my life in a multicultural and multilingual environment in Saudi Arabia, where I have also attended an international school that provided education in English, I had the opportunity to further my English knowledge starting at an early age. I have an excellent command of English, with an IELTS Academic score of 8/9.

Throughout my education in translation and interpreting, I have gained a wide range of professional skills, among which are Literary Translation, Academic Translation, Technical Translation, Legal Translation, Medical Translation, Adaptation, and Editing. I have completed translation projects in which I translated several short stories of Jack London and Ernest Hemingway.

In addition, I have obtained certification in Post-Editing Machine Translation, which was provided by SDL.

I have also completed two internships, one of which was at the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency of Turkey (AFAD), under the Translation Department. Within the one-month internship period, I was assigned with the translation of reports and bulletins. The second internship I had the opportunity of experiencing was one the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Center for Strategic Research (SAM) offered, where I was teamed with a group of interns and was put in charge of transcribing audio records of international meetings held within the department, proofreading and editing transcriptions, and writing news reports. I gained invaluable experience and knowledge from both internships provided by these government institutions in regards to terminology and tone of speech in the context of international relations and formal correspondence within public institutions.

In 2017, I was employed as an English speaking customer relations representative for Turkish Airlines by Turkcell Global Bilgi for 6 months, where I was in charge of tending to the requests and complaints of English speaking customers and contacting them.

Aside from my University education, I have also attended the Summer School Program provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Turkey, Center for Strategic Research (SAM).
