A career which consists of attending theatre productions, art galleries and film premieres sounds like an array of excitement.
However, Arts Journalist Tracey Saunders says that “Art’s a representation of culture” and not merely consisting of festivals. Therefore, one should acknowledge the reality of having deadlines which have to be fulfilled. It may be glamourously flattering to be invited to events as part of your work requirement but one should bear in mind ones duty which is to do a task. The reality is that in order to be successful in this unpredictable and daunting industry is to be fully aware of the possibilities and the challenges it surfaces. As with any career, there are difficulties therefore it is crucial to be tenacious and maintain perseverance.
Much less emphasis has been placed on print media in the last decade. However this does not mean that it is a dying trade. Many individuals appreciate print media which may allude to a habitual custom or pure appreciation of a printed sheet of information. Thus, Arts journalism is not for the faint hearted. Therefore, it would be advisable to those who have a sheer passion for writing to pursue this world wind career which will challenge your seriousness about pursuing this industry.
Writing is considered an Art as it cannot be ideally perfected yet each individual possesses their own niche within writing. Arts Journalist Peter Tromp stresses the importance of specialising. He says that not every individual can be humourous therefore it is prudent to remain within certain parameters. With that said, one should also bear in mind that by finding your passion, all outlets have to be exhausted. Whether it be freelancing for several media publications and enduring countless deadlines, this will fundamentally furnish you with the art of writing.
