ACADEMIC PROJECTS AND SEMINARS
M.Tech Thesis:
[Jun 2017-present]
Numerical simulation of Electro chemical discharge machining of electrically nonconductive materials for MEMS
applications | IIT Bombay | Guide: Prof. Suhas S Joshi
Primary objective is to numerically simulate the material removal in ECDM process on glass using finite element
analysis
Extensive experiments are being done to characterize the ECDM process, and understand the MRR, HAZ, overcut
and validate the numerical simulation
Developed a basic finite element model of ECDM machining of glass with electrolyte as sodium hydroxide, using
ANSYS, and validated the simulations by conducting extensive experiments
Efforts to improve the inherently low MRR in ECDM process are being done
Future works: Numerically simulate the effect of surface roughness of tool in the material removal process
M.Tech Seminar:
[Jan – May, 2017]
Effect of process parameters on the surface roughness in EDM process | IIT Bombay | Guide: Prof. Suhas S Joshi
Reviewed literature of the experiments done all over the world to study the effects of each process parameters on
the surface roughness of the products machined by EDM process
Single spark and multiple sparks discharge models of EDM are subjected to study and comparison
The parameters which shows different behavior in experiments and models are found out, and reasons are studied
B.Tech Project:
[June, 15-April, 16]
Numerical analysis of heat transfer enhancement of porous fins| GEC Palakkad | Guide: Asst. Prof. Leeju chirayath
Developed finite element model of porous fin with equidistant holes in a plate fin of dimensions (9x5x0.5)cm using
ANSYS FLUENT and hole diameter is optimized for maximum heat transfer is determined
Fabricated an experimental set up for the validation of the model and successfully validated
The highest increment in effective heat transfer coefficient on the top side of the fin is obtained as 13.42% and the
temperature difference between base and tip is reduced by 25.21%, compared to plate fin without holes, for 3 holes
(dia. 20mm) covering 20.94% area of the top surface of the fin, which corresponds to the optimal design
