Acquisition – I have worked in a busy modern academic library as an acquisition assistant librarian. This experience grounded me well in matters of book acquisition process. Receiving user requests, shortlisting books to be purchased, identifying and selecting favourable vendors, sending proforma invoice and LPOs, receiving books upon delivery, processing invoice for finance to pay vendors.
Cataloguing – Grouping of books in their subjects for easy retrieval and management. Am well versed with both card and system cataloguing, cutting across original, copy and transcribed cataloguing. Application of LC classification schemes, MARC standards, AACR2 and RDA.
Instructional/ reference – Guiding students to do proper academic writing and research, through programs such as in-house training. Application of citation methods, identifying predatory publishers, right online information searching and hosting career guidance programs.
Circulation services – issuing and receiving of Library materials to users. This area also involves librarians getting more direct feedback from users.
Library Operations – Ensuring conducive space for students and staff. Library lighting, cleaning, book shelving and security
