Not just a data scientist. But a computational scientist who synthesizes knowledge. Think problem solver and non-fiction story teller rather than data dumper.
I use Python to find value in complex data using innovative and original algorithms. While most of my work has been in the life sciences and finance, my skills apply to virtually any market. I work exclusively as a freelancer and rarely handle more than one client at a time and for most of my projects I leverage custom AI and ML modeling.
One specialty of mine is time travel. Time traveler? Well... through time series analysis algorithms and approaches I have perfected over the years. They say "past results do not guarantee future outcomes", but in certain problems, if the right features are identified and used in the right ways, past results certainly can herald and foretell them. I build feature discovery infrastructures and deep learning models for time series problems. Think projecting response to a new chemical entity (NCE) in a clinical trial, or projecting economic indicators or financial/business metrics for policy or corporate decisions.
One of my recent accomplishments is an ensemble model incorporating recurrent and convolutional neural networks for identifying value investments in foreign currency exchange markets. The result is one of my most prized accomplishments – consistent profits in a highly leveraged trading market where 90% of traders lose 90% of their capital within 90 days. Another is an app for identification of value in real estate listings. One of my specialties is the identification of value in complex life sciences data. I do much more than routine bioinformatics – I leverage a career of judgment and expertise with modern genomics and other patient datasets as expressed through custom algorithms, scripts and programs (python) and I often am able to not only find unique value in data, but help my clients design studies and develop programs that are more inclined to result in the delivery of such value. I most commonly leverage structured datasets with AI and various types of deep learning modules depending on the problem. Some of my recent life sciences projects have helped to identify the mechanism behind off-label effects of approved compounds, the identification of activated signal transduction pathways required for the ex-vivo growth of a particular human tissue (mass production of tissues in the lab, for which there is a dire need), and prioritization of compounds likely to produce a particular therapeutic effect in a given tissue. Others have started with a tissue type towards identifying genetic circuits and compounds likely to be useful in treating certain conditions. In addition to AI, ML from structured data, I am also capable of leveraging foundational and custom third-party models with unstructured data for various purposes. I approach life science problems the same way I approach equity market or any other complex problem by literature-tested approaches augmented with original innovations and the skills
I have mastered apply to just about any field of study or discipline.
I got my start in the life sciences, which is what I earned my doctorate in, and in the 2000s I developed a history of thought leadership and computational / genomics innovation. In the 2000s I built DNAPrint genomics, of Sarasota and later, Bradenton, FL, where we applied novel computational and automated molecular biology methods to make history; we were featured on numerous television programs (domestic and European), written about by international media, (New York Times, US News and World Report, Popular Science, Scientific American etc.), and went on to not only form the basis for an Academic Press textbook I authored, but trail blazed the forensic phenotyping and consumer genomics marketplaces that today are valued at over $1B per year. DNAPrint was 20 years ago, and since then most every job I have had has involved some aspect of
computational innovation.
I really enjoy taking on challenging coding projects and being able to deliver value to help move a project. It brings great satisfaction to me.
