Thomas Adams

I am currently in my final year at the Uni of Glasgow, studying English Lit and Film & TV Studies. I have a background of working on short films – I have directed/produced/shot/edited around eight short films and have made films ever since I was a kid. On these projects, I learned to have an understanding in every department of film production. Last year, I founded and ran the Glasgow University Filmmaking Society, which in one year garnered over 80 members, made 7 short films, and had two sold-out premieres. At these premieres, we sold just over 500 tickets and raised £800 for charity. The society is still running this year, having just elected a new board. 

In order to start the society, I donated all of my own equipment to get it off its feet. This gave me an extremely hands-on experience in managing people and film schedules. I acquired the equipment after working in bars around Glasgow, and bought a Blackmagic Pocket 6K (with a variety of lenses from Sigma and Samyang), and a Rode NTG-4, as well as all necessary accessories.

I also gave seminars to the society on a range of different film topics. These included cinematography basics (camera settings, different lens applications, and basic lighting patterns), and editing workshops using Adobe Premiere Pro, and occasionally After Effects for more specific applications. The society gave me other skills including in regards to screening set ups, curation and running order, and marketing of individual films.

I am currently editing videos for DJ's in Glasgow, and have the role of 'Videographer' for the Glasgow Charity Fashion Show, which raised £40000 last year. In this role, I create content for social media, usually based off of themes supplied by the organisers.
