Temitope Braimah

I am a Data Scientist and Data and Business Analyst, Certified Internal and Information Systems Auditor with experience delivering strategic processes that increase operational efficiency. Working with global brands in the Telecoms, Financial Services and FMCF sector; I have led and managed complex projects which have exposed me to the diversities of audit design, control implementation and risk management. As a professional, I demonstrate excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills that drive my abilities to lead and develop aspiring professionals within my niche. I gradually began a career transition from Audit to Data Science in October 2021 after over 13 years practising as an Internal Auditor.

I am currently an MSc student of Data Science and its Applications, studying at the University of Essex. I also completed a Post Graduate Program in Data Science and Business Analytics (DSBA) from the McCombs School of Business, University of Texas at Austin, and do have a Data Science Fellowship from Utiva.io.

I have BSc (Hons) Applied Accounting Second Class Division from Oxford Brookes University, United Kingdom and furthered my studies by obtaining an MBA from Queen Mary, University of London, United Kingdom. To define my specialism within the finance and business operations, I became a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and an Information Systems Auditor (CISA) from the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).

During my DSBA program at University of Texas which ran from Oct 2021 to June 2022, I was exposed to the use of Python in building my expertise and develop ability to independently solve business problems using Analytics and Data Science. I learnt how to extract strategic business insights from data and efficiently communicate analytics results to stakeholders. I also built models to predict future trends and use them to inform business strategies. Finally, I built substantial body of works and industry-ready portfolios in Data Science and Analytics.

Some of the projects in my portfolio include:

• Performing Exploratory Data Analysis to understand the demand of different restaurants and providing insights that will help a food aggregator company enhance their customer experience

• Using statistical methods to help an online news portal identify important patterns on their website that can assist to expand their business and acquire new subscribers

• Using machine learning to develop a dynamic pricing strategy for used and refurbished devices by analysing provided data of a start-up company to build a linear regression model that predicts the price of a used phone/tablet and identify factors that significantly influence it.

• Identify factors that have a high influence on booking cancellations and formulate profitable policies for cancellations and refunds. This analysis was conducted by using different techniques such as Decision trees and logistics regression to build predictive models for booking cancellation predictions in a group company with chains of hotels.

• Building a classification model to help facilitate the process of visa approvals and recommend a suitable profile for the applicants for whom the visa should be certified or denied based on the drivers that significantly influence the case status for a data analytics firm.

• Performing Feature Engineering and Model Tuning on a model designed to identify/predict generator failures so that the generators could be repaired before failing/breaking to reduce the overall maintenance cost.

• Identifying different stock attributes for some companies listed under the New York Stock Exchange using financial indicators and stock prices.

I am competent in the use of programming languages such as R and Python, Query languages such as SQL, Data Visualisation tools such as Power BI and Tableau. I have used all these mentioned tools to deliver excellent projects to business stakeholders.

I love to solve problems in a structured manner and extracting insights from numbers to create insightful stories. I want to impact business decisions through evidence gathered from data, inculcate 21st century competencies and build a strong career through them and also keep pace with a business world that’s becoming increasingly data driven.

I am currently looking for an opportunity to up my skills and deliver value while practising as a Data Scientist, which is a slight deviation from my previous work experiences in Internal Audit.
