detection, face recognition and emotion recognition in real time. Tasks included data cleaning, writing controllers
to process I/O from streaming devices, researching advanced CNN architectures, implementing transfer learning on

◦ Tsunami travel time prediction: Partnered with INCOIS (Indian Natinal center for Ocean Information
Services) to create and deploy a time series model that accurately predicts tsunami travel time to highly populated
regions of the country. Increased the accuracy of the model by 12.5% and reduced training time by a factor of 10.
◦ Parallelizing model: Parallelized existing tsunami prediction model using scikit-cuda and py-cuda, enabling it to
run on a GPU cluster over a low latency network, reducing training time and enabling online training of the model.

Projects
• SQL Query Engine: Implemented an end to end SQL engine including a parser, loaderand optimizer, which ended up
being the best performing engine out of twenty teams’ engines in the course (Java, Multithreading).
• CareerVillage.orgRecommendation Engine: Developed a recommendation engine to predict the ideal professional
to direct questions to when a new question is asked by a user on the platform (LDA, Natural Language Processing).
• Boston Emergency Data Analysis: Identified districts in the Boston area with higher than average emergency calls
and provided recommendations to respond to emergencies in each geolocation in the form of emergency services by
optimizing their placement. Built a predictive model using neural networks to predict the type of emergency of the caller
based on its geographical and temporal information (EDA, Neural Networks).
• Analyzing a virtual game economy: Used World of Warcraft Auction House data from the past ten years to create
an intelligent investment plan in order to maximize profits. Drew parallels between in game and real life economy.
