About

Curiosity is the mother of all knowledge. Inquisitive nature since childhood drags me to enhance my knowledge. I always desired to learn how things work in real life and apply that apprehension to bring meaningful sustainable development. Illiteracy and impecunious family situation inspired me to strive for a successful career which is not possible without education. As a teenager, I promptly encountered equipment, machines, and mechanical systems as my family's existence was based on farming. These creative applications surrounding me have influenced my decision to further my curiosity in the field of mechanical engineering.

I am Sumit Kumar Rai, currently working as Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering Department at DIT, Pimpri, Pune, India. My strong technical background and enthusiastic about practical application draw my industrial work inclination. I was drawn to the industrial work position by my strong interest in the field of Mechanical engineering especially Thermal, Renewable & Design. I have qualified International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with overall band score of 7.0. Furthermore, I have published four international journal research papers in last one year.

As I was one of the brilliant students in undergraduate and postgraduate and also continuous years qualified Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in Mechanical Engineering which is one of the most competitive exams in India, I was selected for assistant professor in the mechanical engineering department in National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar, India. Apart from exploring my teaching skills and strengthening my technical knowledge, I helped many students to develop their careers by helping with technical knowledge, competitive exams & interview preparation.

Along with prepared course material including laboratory experiments, exams, and assisted faculty with administrative tasks and curriculum developments and worked on National Board of Accreditation (NBA) is one of the major bodies responsible for the accreditation of higher education institutions in India and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) work. I have published scopus research paper title “IOT- Based Smart Plant Protection and Pest Control by Using Raspberry Pi”. My motivation is aligned with growing challenges in the thermal energy field.

Further to exploring my research ability, I joined one of India’s best research institutes Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay in the department of energy science & engineering for my Master of Science in a research course. Pulling force towards energy systems due to fact that eventual and vital urgency of all enterprises for the viable life on the earth is the energy. Considering all these factors I have been fascinated doing a project entitled “An overview of Solar Thermal Storage Systems.” Working in a multi-disciplinary team in the Solar Energy laboratory under the Department of Energy Science & Engineering at a world-class engineering institute at IIT Bombay taught me professionalism, teamwork, discipline, and improved communication skills.

I joined the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar, India for my master's studies and was introduced to the Mechanical System Design course. While developing my design concepts were implemented to solve a real-world demand-based project entitled “Investigation of heat transfer through Trombe wall.”

To start my engineering era, I managed to join one of the premier engineering institutes under Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, India where I build a strong foundation of technical knowledge in the Mechanical Engineering field. During graduation, I put up strong theoretical & practical knowledge in the core subjects. My undergraduate projects were: Major Project: To develop a power-generating hybrid car using renewable resources. A physical car model was developed using alternate energy resources (solar, wind, shock, and sound energy) and Minor Project: A case study on “Blends of ethanol & gasoline” used for the petrol engine.

In my opinion, my background matches the engineer position perfectly. My previous research topics able me to work for sustainable development. Research experience at IIT Bombay helps me to develop problem solving skill as well as software skill like MatLab, Excel, MS word, Latex.

I believe I have a strong background in the field of Solar Thermal & Heat Transfer through my master’s research and courses like Solar Thermal, Thermodynamics, and Heat Transfer.

I would really welcome the opportunity to discuss with you and I am very much hopeful to join your organization. I will be obliged to work for the sustainable world. I am open to work in any role.
