About Orthopedic
Orthopedics is a branch of medicine which deals with bones and muscles treatment. Orthopedic surgery deals with injuries, diseases and conditions associated with the musculoskeletal system, which encompasses the ligaments, joints, nerves and tendons.
Types of Orthopedic Treatments
There are different types of orthopedic procedures or treatments. One of them is arthroscopy surgery, which is a method used to diagnose and treat chronic or acute wrist, knee or shoulder injuries and inflammation.
Another method is the hip replacement procedure. During this procedure, the damaged part of the hip is removed and replaced with an artificial part constructed from very hard plastic or metal. This method is likewise known as the total hip arthroplasty.
Knee replacement procedure is employed to relieve an individual of pain thus restoring the functionality of the knee joints with the problem. During the knee replacement procedure, the affected bone and cartilage are removed from the kneecap, shinbone or thighbone, which are then replaced with polymers, plastics of very good quality or metal alloys.
Other treatment methods or procedures include: knee braces for osteoarthritis, knee osteotomy and others.
How to Treat Orthopedic Problems
There are a number of orthopedic problems and how to treat them.
Congenital Disorder of the Hip – CDH
This condition occurs when the joint of the hip is displaced. Using the orthopedic approach, we believe that this problem arises because the spine isn’t straight and something has to be done about it. In treating this condition, an orthopedic physician will try to create a functional body symmetry through some tummy time, creating movement and through local exercises, which in the long run will help the hip joint fit back into position. If the method doesn’t work, then the usage of splint by the patient could be adopted.
Torticollis
This condition makes the head tilted in one direction, resulting from the shortening of the muscled neck on one side. An orthopedic doctor sees the problem arising as a result of asymmetry along the spine of the patient. So, the first approach to treatment is to try to balance the entire body of the patient by relaxing the neck muscle that is shortened.
Club Foot
This condition is treated by surgery using plaster cast if the case is extreme.
