Hi there!
My name is Shoko, nice to e-meet you!
I was born Yokohama, Japan to a Japanese dad and a Chinese mom. I was raised there until I was 11 years old, then moved to Shenzhen, China for 3 and half years for middle school – thinking it would be great if I could communicate with my Chinese side of my family and I am now so grateful I did! After that, I lived in Vancouver, Canada for high school for 2 and half years. And came back to Japan to attended undergraduate university in Yokohama, Japan. I speak, write, and read native/fluent English and Japanese, and I can hold a casual conversation in Mandarin and Cantonese.
After undergrad, I got my first full time job at a market research company as a sales consultant; my main tasks were to create quotes depending on what the clients requested as well as in their languages (Japanese or English). My second company was research consulting company and I was there as an associate mainly recruiting industry experts in Japanese or English that best fit for the projects that the consulting firms (client) were working on. As well as documents translation for internal paperwork and between experts and the clients.
Along the way, I realized how I love the aspect of translation of languages being a bridge between different cultures and backgrounds, and how it fit so perfectly with my background and growing up in 3 different countries therefore 3 different cultures. I also really enjoy the creative side of translation; how I have to grasp and execute the nuances and spice of the source language to target language.
My specialty would be PR, advertisement, arts and humanities materials and entertainment; I have also done product instruction translation as well.
In my free time, I like to read, cook/bake, take photos (Instagram: @_shokonatori), go free-diving in the ocean in the summer and go snowboarding in the winter.
Many thanks for reading my profile, and looking forward to hearing from you!
