RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
February 2015-May 2016
Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities (CURO) Summer Fellowship, Athens, GA
Research Fellow
Submitted research proposal that was approved by staff and received a grant from CURO at the
University of Georgia to complete research on archival materials. Traveled to the Schomburg
Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem to gather primary documents authored by
Malcolm X and those in which he maintained correspondence.
Analyzed copies of documents and narrowed down topics to address at the CURO panel in July
of 2015. Focused on the Organization of Afro American Unity (OAAU) because there is a limited
amount of information dedicated to this organization that Malcolm X created before his
assassination. Targeted research notes and plans outlined in this compilation of documents
associated with his organizations.
Presented findings at the 2016 CURO Symposium and completed an honors thesis on the OAAU
during senior year at the University of Georgia. Plan to publish some of this material as I
investigate this organization more intimately.
