I have a great depth of experience that began in GIS and Remote Sensing where I started writing technical documentation for internal software. I found that I really enjoyed the writing aspects of my job and eventually began documenting full time. Eventually, I moved to Armenia, where I specialized in technical documentation and requirements gathering for a software outsourcing company. From there, I moved on to communications and content management for an international hospitality chain.
I love to write and create, whether it is technical documentation or a blog. Every task is a new challenge and I enjoy the variety of subjects I've been able to write on.
Most recently, I took on a massive training and documentation project for a fast growing hospitality company. As the company grew, it needed a holistic training system for its distributed work force. I led a team of subject matter experts to standardize processes and produce multilingual training and documentation materials for employees on three continents. It was challenging and invigorating to overcome the speed bumps as we rolled out the system.
Over the past two years living in Armenia (my second stint here), I've learned a vast amount not only about writing, but also about managing a cross-cultural and distributed team. At times, I've worked with teams simultaneously based in the US, Armenia, and Belarus. The process of organizing these teams with their different time zones and languages was an awesome challenge. There are of course, things I may have done differently knowing what I know now.
Outside of work, I do a lot of writing on my own. My life to this point has been a whirlwind that has taken me from the United States to Eastern Europe and finally to tiny Armenia, tucked into the mountains of southwest Asia. In addition to writing, I'm also an avid runner, reader, and backpacker. One of the perks of being based in Armenia is being able to explore the countryside with its ancient monasteries and spectacular mountains.
