Most of the design and Architecture work was done and a set of instructions or steps were discussed, like vCenter single sign-on nodes or use the new features, upgraded vCenter to 6.0 first and then update the vSPhere Update Manager. There were 40 hosts in production and 13 or so in development or test environment. We took a few hosts offline running 5.x and then used them for test purposes to upgrade, then we created windows 2008 and 2012 Virtual Servers put vCenter 6 and then brought in some vm’s from test/dev environment did testing to see if everything was working ok.
There was also the regular day to day work like keeping up SAN storage volumes up to date keeping a 20 percent margin at the least 15% as per the client’s requirement. The storage was either EMC or NetApp. There were distributed and standard switches in the environment.

Printing issues like HP plotters firmware upgrade. VMWare 5.1 and VMWare 5.5 vCenter, having about 200 Virtual servers and 18 hosts in 2 locations.
Have a total of 500+ servers 300 being physical and have 180 windows 2003 servers. Day to day stuff is like ticket queue –issues like VPN setup on IPAD, email on android and IPhone, create and add user’s to Security groups in AD.
Creating print queues and updating drivers for the networked printers. Just basic SAN like adding storage from assigned storage on the VM’s. Mcafee EPO, IBM big fix for patching, using fog light for VMWare, increase CPU/memory for VMS.
Worked on 2 node file server in this environment, just failover server and the like.

The network team created the required ACL’s to the individual servers in question and also opened the firewall for the same, the destination network and server team did the same. Using Robocopy scripts were used to map a network/share to the destination server and then used the mapped drive as target and did the move, after the move was made the DFS links were then reset to point to the new moved location as the target using Brocade Storage X GUI tool.

Worked on getting the Windows OS Multipath if optimal or degraded for updating to the latest in SAN fabric, which in turn would let us upgrade the SAN to IBM XiV system. This included using command’s for EMC/Powerpath, IBM SDDDSM, and Hbanyware.
Remediation for server’s which either had the wrong software. The IBM SAN/Lun’s would have needed SDDDSM software which if not installed, create a Request for change, get the necessary approvals for the installation of the software and also the date and time. After completion of the installation, verify the Windows OS multipath is Optimal. And the same for the Power path Software.
Using VERITAS Volume Manager (VEA), create disk groups, add Lun’s to Windows cluster servers.
Worked on SAN migration from DS8300 to XIV. VMware 3.5 administration of windows 2003 and windows 2008 R2 servers.
