Foods That Can Help Cool You Down/Feel Cool
Along with air and water, food is one of the gifts bestowed upon us by
mother nature. Foods act as a fuel for the body. Naturally existing food items are
known for their therapeutic and medicinal properties.
Summers and the heat, bring their own set of side effects, namely sunburn,
heat stroke, etc. What is healthier than adding foods to our diet which makes us
cool and keep us refreshed.
Let us explore the title from the perspective of foods that can keep us cool
during summers.
Our skin and the exteriors bear the maximum brunt of heat during summer
time. Therefore, our diet or lifestyle must have natural ingredients to keep it cool
as well. A few of the natural food items that can keep us cool in summer are:
-
Water Melon: It has one of the largest density of liquid along with the sucrose
rich pulp. Watermelon can be eaten or consumed as a smoothie. In both the
cases, the hydration it provides keeps both your interiors and exteriors cool.
The natural antioxidants help flush out the toxins. Any detoxifying food
keeps you hydrated longer. Why? Because in this case your sweat glands need
not work in overdrive to flush out the toxins. Detoxifying food does that work
for. They flush out the toxins through your digestive system as the feces.
-
Citrus Fruits: Hydration and summers are synonymous. The naturally existing
water content and vitamin C helps the cause. In summers indulge in your fill
of any citrus fruit. Gulp swigs of that chilled orange juice regularly. And who
could resist the charm of a lemonade on a hot summer day? Why not add a
dash of mint for that extra flavor and digestive properties?
-
Cucumber: They are high in water content, as much as 96%. They are also
known to reduce those dark circles around your eyes. Preparation time is
minimal, slice & dice and consume. Water gives you hydration and cooling. And
the rest 4% comprises mainly of vitamin A, B and C.
-
Green Leafy Vegetable Salads: The leafy ones grow naturally in summer. This
is natures signal to include them in your diet, when they are available fresh
and aplenty i.e. Summers. Salads are easily digestible and the presence of
ample fiber keep the Gastro Intestinal track in sound health.
Remember, we are reminded regularly by our Grandma and Physician
alike, to include fiber content in our food. The fiber content not only cleanses
the internals of our intestine. They also add volume to our excreta, in turn,
help body to maintain hydration.
End Note:
Summer time by itself puts stress on our body.
You do not want to put
additional strain on your digestive system. A point to note is that hydration and
digestion are interrelated.
Stay as far as possible from foods that are not easily digestible or have a long
digestion time. Both of the above mean that the body needs to heat-up to digest the
ingested food. Which in turn means you would need more hydration to keep your cool
during summers.
And as a final word, allow us to add that consume as much of the
elixir of life as you can. Yes, consume water.
