Role
Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator
June 2016-December 2016
Digital Consultant
Samantha’s role is split between business analysis work and UX work on the Mobi Channel which was being built and launched to increase the influx of candidates applying. Essentially both roles have to be 1 or 2 sprints ahead of the Dev team. The daily
responsibilities included Prepping a planning stories for upcoming sprint on mobi
•Elicit requirements from stakeholders (Product Owner and users)
•Competitor research for best practice and benchmarking purposes
•Gain clarity from developers around effort and tasks required for a story
•Gaining insight from interviews of users (e.g. sitting with “Feet on Street” employees to run through the process of their day to day activities, understanding challenges they face and the opportunities to make these more efficient)
•Travelling to employers for User Research with the Harambee research team i.e. Observing the employers in their environments to ensure that no assumptions are made in the design of the portals (User Centred Design requires observation of the users
in their environment which gains deeper insight into their processes, their habits, their needs and also whether they would actually use the product we are designing regardless of what they ‘say’ they would
use)
•Using mental models or simply drawing up some flows and rough mock ups and taking the developers and the Product Owner through the flow and the requirements to ensure that we are aligned with regards to the flow and the requirements of the
following sprint
•Drawing up the reviewed flow using Balsamiq so that the wireframes are clear and finalised, reviewed by Product Owner and developers and these are shared with the team so that everyone in the team is clear and aligned on process, look and feel.
•Continue with user research for upcoming sprints- creating questionnaires and capturing candidate information so that tests are designed to test theories regarding invite days or other assumptions being made about the effective throughput of candidates.
•Testing reviewed stories (just generally trying to break things)
•Facilitate planning, reviews etc.
