After graduating from the University of the Philippines with a degree Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, I was hired by the biggest online English learning school from Japan as an online English Instructor way back in 2010. I had met various students with different nationalities, students from all walks of life. In this kind of job, one has to patient, resourceful, friendly, creative and punctual. These, I believe, are the most important qualities to have for any individual who wish to become effective in the Online English Tutorial industry. Thanks to this experience, I can confidently say that I have learned these important qualities which are also very helpful to be an effective Virtual Assistant. I spent 4 years with them and this is one of the best 4-year periods of my life. I quit from the company around 2015 because I thought I had to try a new field and hopefully, to widen my horizon. Luckily, I was hired as a Virtual Assistant working for a Canadian entrepreneur. As a VA, I was tasked to do several things, mostly admin support stuff like managing emails, scheduling an appointment, social media and sometimes, even essay writing. I can humbly say that I had a very positive working relationship with my boss. I really enjoyed working for him. However, in 2017, my then girlfriend got pregnant and both families from each side agreed that we had to get married. I was forced to end my working relationship with my Canadian boss as I had to focus on raising my kid. I thought it was only temporary and maybe I could still go back to him when I am ready but for whatever reasons, I could not contact him anymore. The following year, I used our small savings to start a small buy and sell type of business. Thought it went well at first but this pandemic has caused a tremendous negative impact on my once - promising business so, I told myself to try my luck on the freelancing industry again. I admit I may need a bit of re-orientation and perhaps a training to get me back with the flow. Hopefully my experiences as an Online tutor and Virtual Assistant would make things easier for me and help me fast track my aspirations. It will not be easy this time around, for sure I bank on my dedication to work as well as my determination to succeed.
