About

Wide industry experience from Fortune 100 order processing to stock exchange trading floor to life saving medical devices and other embedded systems. Author of The Minimum You Need to Know award winning technical book series. One of the few consultants you will meet who has written ACMS applications and the only one who still has a book in print discussing how to do it.

From a design perspective I tend to view systems from the 20,000 foot level all the way down to the gears. I have a habit of looking three miles down the road before we turn onto it and considering lots of options, no matter how ludicrous they sound at the time, before we lock ourselves into one tool/architecture/course of action and no longer have any exit.

Started my cross platform experience with Zinc during the days of DOS and OS/2. Eventually migrated to Qt. Now experimenting with CopperSpice and FOX toolkit given the current state of Qt. Will also be doing some electron at some point soon.

When you've been in IT as long as I have and worked in so many industries, you've kind of seen and done most of it. I've done COBOL, MQ Series, VAX BASIC, DIBOL, Cognos PowerHouse, even some Fortran IV.

I really enjoy working on medical devices. Knowing what I helped create is out there saving lives (or at least making them better) every day is a very rewarding thing.
