Professional Experience
Human Resource Assistant & SOX Coordinator
January 2017 – current
Special Metals Corporation - Huntington, West Virginia
I was originally hired as an Accountant and SOX Coordinator for Special Metals. This
included their Huntington, Burnaugh, KY and Elkhart, IN locations. I reported directly to
the Division SOX Coordinator in Cleveland, OH. However, the independence issue of being
an Accountant and SOX Coordinator caused me to be afforded the opportunity to choose
which other area of the business I wanted to learn more about. I chose to work with Human
Resources in order to learn more about sourcing, hiring and maintaining employee
satisfaction. I also hoped that I could bring about change in the efforts of management to
improve and sustain employee morale.
The scope of my work included the following:
Accounting – Monthly review of sales transactions. Classification into sales by State,
Country and NAICS Code. Involved maintaining an annual spreadsheet that utilized
macros, vlookup/hlookup functions and pivot table creation and maintenance.
Accounting – Monthly review and confirmation of intercompany accounts. This
included over 20 intercompany balances that had to be confirmed internationally.
Human Resources – Assisted with setup of new employees, terminations, employee
changes to benefits and research into the classification of employees such as Exempt,
Non-Exempt, etc.
SOX Coordinator – This position initially included performing the testing of critical
controls within the organization as required by the Sarbanes-Oxley ruling of Congress.
In addition to performing the majority of the testing, I was responsible for training all
new hires on SOX. In January 2018, I expanded the program to include 13 additional
testers in an effort to improve the independence of the testers. This process has
required many hours of training with other individuals from all areas of the plant. We
successfully completed our first quarter of testing with only one exception.
