Human Rource Management sample
Hey everyone , my name is Jen Biehl. I’m part of the Corporate HR team. I sit in Connecticut, which is on the east coast of the US, pretty close to New York city.
I work in areas related to organization and talent development, inclusion and diversity, and learning. And I’m here to talk to you today about the topic of feedback, which is one of my very favorite topics in the context of the work that I do .
So when I talk about feedback in the context of work I typically start with the outcome, which is to gain additional insight and awareness, so that each of us know in how we work one, what makes us uniquely impactful and effective, and that we can confidently articulate that. So with that in mind, I invite you, before you dive into this learning experience, to think about a time when you received really good, honest, direct, thoughtful, and relevant feedback. How did that help you learn something new about yourself or improve or get better.
Or think about a time you gave someone else, a classmate, a friend, a coworker a family member, some good, honest, direct, and helpful feedback. Think about the impact it had on their life or whatever they were trying to accomplish at the time. In most cases feedback, even if sometimes it’s hard to face or accept, is immeasurably valuable. So we’ve designed this learning module to equip you with a simple framework, a simple but powerful tool, to give feedback to motivate others to grow, which is really an essential skill that an HR professional might use every day.
We also hope that by focusing on this topic you that will either begin a practice of asking for feedback, or building on your existing practice depending where you’re starting, so that each one of you interns that is watching this session can also confidently articulate what makes you uniquely impactful and effective, and help you find and focus on a couple of things, a very short list, that you can address to increase the same.
So, before you dive in, please make sure you review the background materials, the information you’ve received, you may even want to take a few notes or think about some scenarios before you dive into the task. I really hope you enjoy the learning and the practice of this super valuable HR, business, and life skill.
Welcome to GE! I really hope you enjoy the time that you have here with us.
