Even though multilevel inverter has a number of positives, it has negatives in the layer of higher levels by means of large number of semiconductor switches. This may lead to increase in size; cost of the inverter and also the losses. So in order to reduce these situations, the new multilevel inverter is proposed by reducing the switches. My project with the title NEW GRID-TIED CASCADED MULTILEVEL INVERTER TOPOLOGY WITH REDUCED NUMBER OF SWITCHES shows the 15-level cascaded multilevel inverter for dropping the total harmonic distortion. The switching pattern of semiconductor switches is used to get better performance of multilevel inverter. This scheme decreases the switching loss and also increases the efficiency by using minimum number of switches. B.TECH PROJECT Improving power quality in power distribution system using STATCOM Other Details Role Team Leader Submitted at V.K.R,V.N.B & A.G.K COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING Team Size 5 Duration November -2013 to April -2014. Description The STATCOM is the shunt connected FACTS device which is useful for reactive power compensation and mitigation of power quality problems in transmission and distribution system particularly in smart grid environment. This paper has dealt with performance analysis of D-STATCOM that is used for power quality improvement. The D-STATCOM has been used to regulate voltage on a distribution network for the plant absorbing continuously changing currents like an arc furnace that produces voltage flicker. It is observed that the D-STATCOM is efficiently used to mitigate voltage fluctuations there after improving quality of power being distributed. Responsibilities Implementing the software.
