I have worked to help prevent loose of life and property through reliable geological
mapping and prediction of tunnel ground conditions at the Northern Collector Tunnel
(NCT1) Project.
Undertaken my role successfully in the capacity of a geologist in my first big project, the
North collector Tunnel (NCT1) Project, that is nearing completion.

Geologist | Northern Collector Tunnel (NCT 1) Project

Duties and Responsibilities:
Mapping the tunnel to determine the rock classification and forecast
Determine the rock quality designation (RQD) of core recovery samples
Advice on the type of support to be applied on tunnel face from the type of rock mapped
along that section.
Doing site visits, field data collection, analyzing geological data and logging results.
Generate cross-sections and geological profiles of the tunnel by use of software.
Using theories of geomorphology, stratigraphy and structural geology, to predict the
geologic conditions ahead of the working face.
From geological investigations determine the method of tunnel excavation, drilling or
blasting, depending on type of rock encountered.
Investigate the structural condition of the tunnel rock, that is, extent and attitude of major
structural features such as folding, faulting, unconformities, jointing and shearing planes,
if developed.
Measuring water levels in the tunnel excavation to determine levels of ingress and
possible water inrush.
Establishment of groundwater regime and assessment of its possible effects on tunnel
line.
Measuring levels of groundwater in boreholes and monitoring wells around and along the
tunnel line.
Preparing reports, proposals, and other documents required by engineers and/or
managers.
