About me (brief history)
My career started out in electronics in the early 80’s repairing studio cameras, high end audio, TV and video
equipment and of course the venerable PC.
Very early on I realized my passion for all things digital and logic (0s and 1s) so I soon forged a new career path
into the world of programming, first as a hobby then eventually a full career choice as a PC technician and
software and database programmer.
Having progressed through most of the early programming languages like assembler, Delphi, C++ and VB, my
career path took a vertical jump up into databases. Dbase, FoxPro and MS-Access initially, then swiftly
progressed into large databases like MS-SQL, MySQL, Oracle, Interbase, SyBase and several others.
By the 90’s the internet brought a whole new array of career paths where I excelled in PHP, ASP and VBScript.
It became easy for programmers to programmatically manipulate any MS Office components through VBA, of
course I jumped at the opportunity and developed many VBA based office apps that were either MS-Access or
MS SQL Server connected.
Early in the new millennium I had acquired much needed exposure and experience in a broad range of
business and industry sectors, using several programming languages and databases. However, the company
that I had enjoyed working at (BJ Technologies, Durbanville) for 12 years, went belly up and I was forced to
seek challenging, enjoyable and financially viable employment elsewhere.
For another 8 years I worked for FindSA on different projects within and across our borders until they also
closed, so chose to be self-employed until 2019, firmly realizing that I miss team work too much. My desire to
join a modern, yet stable company led me to seriously re-consider the job market where I was successfully
and happily employed by Novation Technologies as a T-SQL & MS-Access (VBA) developer until end of 2022.
Although my contract officially ended December 2022, my ex boss (Ric, from Novation Technologies) gave me
a private 9x month temporary job to create a complete solution (Digital Identity) on Microsoft Azure.
