I am a passionate and driven engineering student at a leading Nigerian university, where I am pursuing a degree in Material and metallurgical Engineering with a strong focus on artificial intelligence. Currently in my third year, I have dedicated my academic journey to mastering the development of AI models that solve real-world problems, particularly those affecting communities across Africa and beyond. From building intelligent systems that optimize energy distribution in underserved regions to creating predictive algorithms for healthcare diagnostics, my work sits at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and local impact.

My fascination with AI began during my second year when I first encountered machine learning concepts in a course on data structures. What started as curiosity quickly evolved into a deep specialization. I spend countless hours in our university’s AI research lab, fine-tuning neural networks using frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch. One of my proudest achievements was developing a computer vision model that accurately detects crop diseases in maize and cassava farms — a project that earned first place at the university’s annual innovation fair and is now being piloted by smallholder farmers in Kaduna State. This experience reinforced my belief that AI is not just code; it is a powerful tool for sustainable development in Nigeria and beyond.

Beyond academics, I actively contribute to the tech ecosystem. I volunteer as a mentor with the Nigerian AI Community, guiding secondary school students in coding bootcamps and helping them build their first chatbots. I have also collaborated on open-source projects hosted on GitHub, including an AI-powered traffic management system tailored for congested Nigerian cities like Lagos and Abuja. These experiences have sharpened my skills in deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and model deployment on cloud platforms such as AWS and Google Cloud.

What fuels me most is the opportunity to bridge the technology gap in Africa. Growing up in Kaduna, I witnessed firsthand how limited access to smart solutions affects education, agriculture, and healthcare. This drives me to specialize in ethical AI development — ensuring models are fair, transparent, and culturally relevant. After graduation, I aspire to pursue a master’s degree in AI while launching a startup that delivers affordable AI tools to Nigerian SMEs.
