My name is Patrick Murphy and I am seeking entry and junior-level roles in software development.
I am a career changer coming from education. I taught middle school English Language Arts for four years where, through the management of a classroom of around 30+ students, I honed my abilities in on-the-spot problem solving and tailoring my materials with a student-first approach to make sure my lessons were accessible to all students. Before that, I managed a shipping department where I was responsible for all outgoing orders for a company with global customers. I was tasked with learning and implementing different technologies to ensure that shipments were accurate and that my staff could prepare orders in a more efficient and less error-prone manner.
I have just completed a software engineering bootcamp with General Assembly by submitting my final project, which is an app built with React for the frontend (with React Router and Auth0 added on) and Django and Python for the backend. So far, I have worked with several technologies to build projects, such as JavaScript, MongoDB, Node.js, Django, and Python. I am willing and able to devote myself to learning new technologies in a short time. The bootcamp covered a good amount of material, but there's so many more tools and technologies out there that I am curious and excited to explore.
I am motivated to learn and a strong self-starter. I believe that with the skills I've learned thus far through my time in the bootcamp and my previous work experience, I am in a position to succeed as a junior developer. I am looking forward to discussing the position more with you in the near future.
