My name is Joseph Ouma, and I work at the intersection of technology, media, and storytelling. My career has grown in two directions that continue to reinforce each other: building digital solutions through software and data, and creating visual stories through photography, film, and theatre.
I began my professional journey in the creative space, training as a camera technician at Maono Africa where I handled Canon DSLR systems, lighting setups, and field production support. I later completed the Canon Miraisha Photography & Video Training Programme, which strengthened my interest in visual storytelling and taught me to think about images, sound, and editing as part of a complete narrative. Alongside this, I wrote and directed several community theatre productions, including Wuon Nyako and Nguzo, both of which performed strongly in the Kenya National Drama Festivals. These experiences sharpened my ability to plan shoots, guide performers, and translate ideas into visual form.
At the same time, my academic background in Statistics pulled me toward the technology world. I developed software and data skills and eventually founded Marketshade Technology Solutions LTD, where I built a working e-commerce platform using Django, React, PostgreSQL, and cloud services. This project pushed me to learn about backend development, API security, cloud deployment, and even integrating machine-learning recommendations into a live product.
I have also worked as a Business Intelligence Developer and a Data Science Tutor. In these roles, I built Power BI dashboards, cleaned and prepared datasets, automated reporting processes, and trained students in Python, machine learning, and data analysis. Mentoring young people has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my career, and it connects back to my work in community theatre and youth projects.
Today, I bring both sides of my experience together. Whether I am behind the camera or coding a backend service, I focus on clarity, structure, and the story behind the work. I enjoy solving problems, collaborating with teams, and creating work that has real impact — whether that impact is technical, visual, or social.
