The children were sent for and they lost no time in arguing about selling her last piece of land and the modest dwelling in it while she was to take turns in living with each of them. She consented, happy to spend her remaining days with her family. What she hadn’t anticipated was turning into a part-time maid in her old age for supporting herself once the children had used up all her money. Old is no more gold. Fences The unkempt plant I carried home and lovingly looked after, the one with magenta blooms and pale green coiled stamens, is now taller than me. When I finished the book I had been carrying around for the last three months, I wept for no reason. Before I sprout out more, let me fence ém up to leave them unspoken and immortal. Futile Warnings The mirror looks quite normal, but Meera knows it isn’t. It is a peephole to the future, which she was warned not to try and so far, she had not. Today is different. She is edgy and curious about that brooding man she met at the clients meet. Meera cautiously steps in front of the mirror and looks. She gasps. She is in the arms of that man. She turns away just as their lips are about to meet. She doesn’t want to see anything more and lose the thrill of her life experiences unravelling in its time. So Meera misses seeing the mirror grow dim, showing her as a captive in a golden castle. If you don’t look close enough or long enough, even magic cannot help you.
