ADVOCACY POSTER with EXPLANATION
ADVOCACY POSTER with Explanation
First is the background. I used a red background because I think red signifies danger and
can be used to good effect in campaigns which need to evoke strong emotions. I believe
that by using a color red background, I will able to associate the message of my campaign
which is like inspiring/ asking ppl to help with the fight against poverty which I think “the
action of performing the said campaign” must be done with a feeling of having passion in
serving, extending hands to others, love and with strong intensity of other emotions such
as determination and courage of letting the community use you as an element of acts of
justice for the less departments which are the poor, the sick and the needy towards
common good/change.
As you can notice, I didn’t put much details in my advocacy poster because that’s the only
idea I can think of that time and I am having trouble with slow internet connection and
unstable electricity on that day.
I used a direct image of depicting the less departments of the society which I considered
the three: The poor, the sick and the needy. I only used one photo to incorporate the
three. As you can see in the advocacy, there are two children, one holding the other while
asking for alms and the other is sleeping in the arm of the other. If we analyze the
situation, we may think of the word “poverty” to describe what is being shown in the photo.
– in my first blog I have included a statement that Poverty has many faces, changing from
place to place and across time, and has been described in many ways which is it can be
hunger, lack of shelter, being sick and not being able to see a doctor, not having access
to school and not knowing how to read, not having a job, having fear for the future and
living one day at a time. And I assume that all of these descriptions of poverty are being
shown in one frame.
I remove the natural color of the photo which is very bright and colorful in order to give a
perspective of the world from a poor person. I assumed that since they are out of the cold
street, lacking ability to fill their hungry stomachs, having no one to comfort, and with
nothing to shelter and warm them– that is how the world looks like to them –no matter
what grandeur is existing and while it is busy keeping up with luxury, I think as long as
they continue experiencing financial deprivation and social depression, the fast innovative
& changing world will be nothing but a world of gray. Grey is a dull dark colour, the colour
symbolises void and emptiness that is what I am trying to present through my poster. It
has a detached and isolated feeling which relates to the feelings of my main characters
(The less departments) therefore grey is an effect colour in order to connote the
personality of the main character of my advocacy campaign. I believe that people who’s
experiencing Poverty much likely feel void and empty, detached and isolated from the
world and its people who can keep up with a lot of developments.
I used the color Yellow for the words. Since Yellow is the most luminous of all the colors
of the spectrum. It’s the color that captures our attention more than any other color. It is
bright, reminiscent of the sun and full of energy. It’s the color of happiness, and optimism,
of enlightenment and creativity, sunshine and spring. Most often, poverty is a situation
people want to escape. So poverty is a call to action – for the poor and the wealthy alike
– a call to change the world so that many more may have enough to eat, adequate shelter,
access to education and health, protection from violence, and a voice in what happens in
their communities.”
Lastly, as you can notice, I put crying eyes on the top and bottom part of my poster
together with a statement “ Let us all be our brother’s keeper, for A world that leaves no
one behind”. The reason is that I believe tears can serve as a signal for others to see the
vulnerability of the less departments. And by that I expect it to trigger human connection
particularly on the emotions related to compassion and empathy of the viewers.
