NICOLA JACOBS- :-PROFILE
I graduated from my English and American Literature and Film course at the University of Kent in
Canterbury this July, and am looking for work in content writing, editing, and marketing. My academic
career and internship have given me experience writing for different purposes and audiences, and
with research on various levels. The cleaning work I have done in the past has been in busy venues,
where working around customers was paramount – I am able to remain professional and polite even
under stressful circumstances. My experience with customer service means I know how to conduct
myself and interact with both the public and my co-workers. I have not yet worked professionally as a
writer, but evidence of my love of language and passion to write can be found on my blog:

WORK EXPERIENCE
Templeman Library, University of Kent, Canterbury (2019) – Exhibition Assistant Intern
I worked with the Special Collections and Archives team to curate an exhibition on the Second World
War, to support an academic symposium occurring later in the year. I researched and compiled a
shortlist of items for the exhibition, learning how to handle and catalogue archived items, as well as
reading data from and creating new Excel spreadsheets to create a database all staff had access to. I
had to consider themes and relativity to the source material, arguing for each item’s suitability, and
regularly attended meetings to consolidate and explain ideas.
Create Café, Canterbury (2017) - Barista
Providing quality customer service at the till, maintaining health and safety standards while making
and serving drinks, cleaning the bar area, and keeping the fridges and kitchen area clean and
stocked. Create is a busy café in between two lecture halls and postgraduate study hubs so there
was a constant flow of customers and it was important to keep the area safe, clean, and stocked at
all times.
Club Chemistry, Canterbury (2016) - Bar Staff
I worked at the club during a Southbeats Festival. My job involved providing quality customer service
when selling drinks tokens, and maintaining a clean work station by clearing up rubbish and
reorganising the work area. The club is the biggest in Canterbury and so areas had to be kept clean,
tidy and safe for the staff and customers at all times.
The Winter Gardens, Margate (2016) - Bar Staff
This role involved providing quality customer service, making drinks, handling money, delivering food
orders to the kitchen, and cashing up the till. I was responsible for cleaning the bar area and making
sure the workspace was free of trip hazards etc to maintain a safe work environment.
ACHIEVEMENTS
National Citizen Service, Thanet (2015) - NCS Course
Two weeks of team building and personal growth skills, followed by two weeks of a social action
project to fundraise for a local youth centre. My team raised just under £800 in total through
organising and advertising bake sales, fun runs, pub quizzes and interacting with the local
community.
