It enables you to automate repetitive and structured project management tasks—saving time, reducing errors, and keeping your processes consistent. Using a no-code, visual rule builder, you can easily configure: • Triggers to define when a rule should run • Conditions to filter which issues the rule applies to • Actions that should be executed automatically You can create rules scoped to a single project or configure global rules that apply across your entire Jira instance. Here are some of the automation rules I’ve implemented recently: • Automatically create the next product version upon releasing a version • Propagate changes in parent issue fields (like Affects Versions, Fixed Versions, KPI allocation) to child issues • Automatically set KPI for bugs to “Technical Debt” • Calculate Epic-level story points by summing points from linked stories • When a support case is marked implemented, link it to the relevant release and clone it for upcoming release versions • Once a service release is marked released, automatically mark all its linked issues as released While these may seem like minor improvements, automating such steps significantly boosts efficiency and ensures consistency across teams.
