Topic –Marriage between India and Lebanon
Title: “Is it culture or religion that drives different marriage scenarios?”
People do not have to be from the same religion or from the same culture to get married. However, it is quite difficult to adjust to different culture or religion. Religious and cultural differences experience different marriage scenarios.
India is a Hindu country while Lebanon is an Islamic country. Both countries are opposite in the context of culture and religion. This essay compares and contrasts the different marriage traditions of India and Lebanon.
“Marriage in India and Lebanon has multiple similarities as well as differences. Both countries are bound to their religious boundaries that are difficult to be ignored”.
From the historical Vedic era, arranged marriages were normal in Indian society and is viewed in maximum families of India. Parents play an important role in the marriage of their son or daughter once they are eligible and choose the bride and groom respectively, for them. There are some people who are not in favor of this kind of marriage system as they believe that marriage is completely based on the compatibility of a boy and a girl. People with such thoughts give leverage of love marriage to their children but the ratio of such people is very less in the Indian society. Marriage system in India differs from caste to caste, from religion to religion, and from poor to rich. A Hindu girl can only marry a Hindu boy however there is an exception in upper class Also upper cast child can only get married in upper caste family with the groom well established in reputable profession enabling both the families to match in financial status.
In case of looks and physicial appearance, for the girl she should be fair and thin while for the boy his height and career matters. As per the Indian law the age of boy and girl should be 21 and 18, respectively. [ CITATION Gup15 \l 1033 ].
In case of Lebanon, only marriage through proper religious system is allowed in Islamic court or mosque. To register ones marriage in Netherland it is necessary to get marriage registered in the civil registry. The obligations and rights in a religious marriage are not equal between wife and husband as in a Dutch civil marriage. In order to get married in Lebanon, the boy and girl must be 18 years old; the marriages before the age of 18 will be illegal. Also, they must make sure that couple is not committed to anyone else. Parents’/guardian permission is compulsory. In Lebanese marriage mostly, religious laws are followed. The father has is solely given the authority of his children in case of divorce, and the wife has the right to take the alimony and inheritance agreed upon at the time of marriage [ CITATION USL18 \l 1033 ].
