Selected Projects
• Machine Learning Solved an inverse problem in biomedical imaging to predict the shear modulus
field of soft-tissue using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) in TensorFlow. Used Python, Numpy and
TensorFlow extensively. Source code available on request.
• GPUs Obtained more than an order of magnitude acceleration for linear elasticity over a single CPU
using CUDA. Accelerated various other material models such as elastoplasticity (CAP) model. Presented
work at conferences and established relationships with other companies and consultants.
• Acoustic Cloaking Acoustic cloaking refers to guiding a sound wave around an object without
scattering rendering the object invisible. I designed special composite materials (Metamaterials) with
anisotropic elastic properties, contributed to several proposals and whitepapers, conducted extensive FEM
analyses, developed custom FEM solvers in C/C++ for calculating effective properties of periodic materials
using asymptotic homogenization and their finite frequency behavior using Bloch-Floquet theory.
• Elastoplasticity I implemented a visco-plastic, pressure dependent damage model with temperature
dependent elastic properties for shells and continuum elements for modeling the response of Aluminum
structures subjected to fire loads. The equations were fully coupled and challenging to solve.
• Structural acoustics Implemented the Zienkiewicz-Newton formulation using matrices (very illconditioned and large) generated from ABAQUS (Simulia) and built reduced order models, used advanced
scientific software toolkits PETSc, SLEPc and MUMPS effectively.
• Structural analysis In collaboration with various team members I built finite element models
using Hypermesh, conducted analyses using in-house and commercial FEM codes (ABAQUS/ANSYS) of
1) Blast protection of the World Trade Center transportation hub 2) Structural analysis of the Jacob K.
Javits Convention Center a 675,000 sq.ft. space frame structure.
Selected Software Skills
• Extremely comfortable in Linux based environments. Adaptable user of various languages and toolkits
as required by the project e.g. C, C++, CUDA, FORTRAN (various flavors), Python, Java, Matlab,
