Empowering Youth: The Mr. and Miss Climate Kenya initiative went beyond mere participation; it
provided a transformative experience for young individuals. By offering a dedicated platform,
participants had the opportunity to not only showcase their unique talents but also discover
their voices as advocates for climate change awareness. Through facilitated linkages to
opportunities like tailored workshops, mentoring sessions, and interactive forums, the initiative
nurtures young peoples self-confidence, enabling them to articulate their ideas and opinions
effectively. Through the Initiative we have Impacted three hundred young people in Kenya living
at the frontline of the climate crisis with Knowledge and psychomotor skills to facilitate the
planting of trees during some of our county engagements as we interact with our grassroots
climate activists.
•
Community Engagement: The initiative engaged communities through awareness campaigns,
promoting climate change education and encouraging sustainable practices. As a testament we
visited Nasurui community conservancy in Samburu where by the reigning officials for the Mr
and Miss Climate Change Kenya Initiative Brought hope to the women and instilled a spirit of
never giving up in their initiatives that were dwindling and through the outreach and sustainable
tourism the community was able to access funding for a water project rehabilitation bring back
one of the most precious resource to life, just to mention a few.

Sustainable Impact: By focusing on education and awareness, the initiative left a lasting impact
on both participants and the community, creating a ripple effect of climate conscious individuals.

Partnership Building: Successful partnerships built during the initiative not only supported the
event but also paved the way for future collaborations, ensuring the initiative's legacy continues.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Position: Climate Justice Inspirator
People For Change Program.
Hosting Organization; KILIFI CITIZENS FORUM

Key Responsibilities and Achievements.
▪ I was the climate justice focal point for SPA 2 Program in Coast Counties in Kenya supporting all climate
justice campaigns and advocacy work in the region. I was able to bring together youth to form the Kilifi
County Eco-Vista Movement, a movement of young people who engage in climate change advocacy in
Kilifi County. I was able to ensure that the Movement was structured and was able to hold duty bearers
to account regarding climate campaigns in Kilifi County.
▪ I led and supported the development and review of the Kilifi County Climate Change Policy. I
represented ActionAid in the technical committee tasked with the development of the Policy. Through
this committee, I ensured Young People in Kilifi County were engaged and provided the necessary
recommendations for input on the policy.
▪ I supported, the Kilifi Citizens Forum to review the Kilifi County Integrated Development Plan-. I was able to support the partner in mobilizing local communities to input the CIDP. Through
this, grassroots voices were included in the CIDP and community priorities went into the document.
▪ I was responsible for partner management in Kilifi County, overseeing support and ensuring that the
partners were able to meet their commitments according to their strategic plan as well as the MOU with
ActionAid. I ensured that partners put in place sufficient policies, and supported the national office to
conduct Organizational Capacity Assessments when onboarding the partners.
•
Contributed to Kilifi County's sustainable development by leveraging climate education expertise
to build the capacity of young people across diverse wards. Developed and delivered
comprehensive programs on current climate trends, empowering the youth to take on leadership
roles in climate action. Focused on fostering community engagement, advocating for practical
adaptation strategies, and creating a network of informed individuals committed to addressing
the global climate crisis. Established a foundation for long-term impact by instilling knowledge
and skills that contribute to both local resilience and broader sustainability efforts and awardwinning Youth-led Initiatives.

collected by engaging youth and stakeholders in rigorous verification processes. Validated the
voices of young people, enhancing the credibility of the information collected and reinforcing the
authenticity of youth perspectives in policymaking.

Democracy Initiative a global flagship programme aimed at safeguarding democracy and human rights in
the Global South, while addressing democratic challenges arising from digital technology usage.

Provided strategic guidance and expertise on leveraging digital technologies to empower local
civil society organizations (CSOs) in the Global South, particularly those facing democratic
regression and restricted civic space.

Advised on prioritizing support for CSOs representing women, youth, and marginalized groups,
as well as informal actors and social movements, enhancing their capacity to utilize digital tools
effectively in advancing inclusive democracy.
•
Contributed to the development of tailored assistance programs, facilitating access to funding
and resources for CSOs working to promote and protect human rights through digital advocacy
and engagement.

Achievements:
I achieved significant milestones in my efforts to empower the community. Several young individuals
have successfully initiated new business ventures, and through field visits, we have confirmed their
active involvement, leading to economic empowerment. The impact of our training programs on
women entrepreneurs has been remarkable. Many women who were previously operating
smallscale businesses have shown substantial improvements. Following our training sessions, these
women have upscaled their businesses and diversified their product offerings. During our field visits,
we observed notable progress among these women, including increased business scale and the
introduction of new product lines. Furthermore, our training has inspired new ventures among other
women who were initially at modest beginnings, highlighting the positive impact of our initiatives on
the community's economic landscape.
